(Buffalo, NY) Buffalo’s music scene has been kicked into high speed as Trazz prepares to bring back the hype that has been missing ever since Rick James passed away. Trazz Feat. Lloyd “Internet Love” will be released April 13th by Phase One/Property Music Group/Fix Your Face Entertainment. Trazz first got radio recognition when his remix to Colby O’Donnis’ “What You Got” feat. Akon and Fat Man Scoop got adds all across the nation! That led to Trazz’s club banger and radio smash “She’s on Fire” feat. Colby O’Donnis. Trazz has worked major remixes for artists like Leona Lewis, Charlie Wilson & Mario. In “Internet Love” Trazz recreates what it’s like to try and maintain a relationship while on tour through social networking, blogs & email. The production by mixtape heavyweight DJ Noodles, who produced tracks on Pitbull’s “Rebulution“, is made for the radio. Lloyd lends his smooth pop vocals to the hook in this crossover record that is anticipated to make waves in multiple radio formats. “Internet Love” will be the next big single in the spring/summer of 2010.

Judging from radio and TV you’d think every rapper and singer in America lives in Atlanta, New York, Miami or Chicago, but believe it or not, there a thousands of artists in other cities making great music. That’s why RefinedHype is giving artists from less-well-known locales the chance to rep their city on the national stage.

Today we kick off our “My City” series with Trazz, a Buffalo, New York native whose hyper-electronic blend of hip-hop and R&B has been building some serious buzz. While Buffalo is probably known to most Americans as “the city T.O. plays in,” Trazz lets us know there’s far more to the upstate New York city than just cold weather; like for instance “Loganberry Juice.”
RefinedHype: You’re from Buffalo, a city that doesn’t get much attention on the national stage. Do you feel like an underdog because of where you’re from?

Trazz: No doubt, My city hasn’t has a major recording star since Rick James. But trust me, its all motivation and I have no problem carrying the city on my shoulders. Upstate, I got us!

RefinedHype: Does Buffalo have a style or sound that makes it unique?

Trazz: Although Buffalo is a part of NY state, we are still 6 hours away from NYC. I believe we have our own identity. Its mixture of NY hip-hop with a touch of southern influence.

RefinedHype: Are there other artists from your city that we should be watching out for?

Trazz: Most definitely. I consider myself the front runner, but my region has a lot of talented artists. Shouts to T-roc, 2 Chain Benny, Nikal Fieldz, LI, and SunNY

RefindeHype: For those who find themselves rolling through Buffalo, what are some places they absolute have to check out?

Trazz: Gotta get the “Buffalo Wings” of course! The Anchor bar is the best in town. You also want to wash them down with “Loganberry Juice”. You wont be able to find that anywhere in the world but Upstate NY. And if you happen to be in town on a Sunday, you gotta roll through Ralph Wilson Stadium and check a Buffalo Bills game. Shouts to Terrell Owens!

RefinedHype: Last words?

Trazz: Check my new Single “All They Wanna Talk About.” Its getting a lot of radio love, so request it at your local radio station.

– RefinedHype.com —

“All They Wanna Talk About” – Trazz
“Good Girls Go Bad” (Remix) – Cobra Starship ft. Trazz
“She’s On Fire” – Trazz ft. Pitbull & Colby O’Donis

You’re from Buffalo. How was growing up there like and how has it influenced you?

Buffalo, isn’t a city that has birthed many stars so there is that crabs in a bucket mentality sometimes. The combination of violence and bad weather can make an entire city depressed. I love my city though and it’s exciting to see people in the street now appreciate me shouting my town out on every chance I get. Just keeping my head engulfed with hiphop listening to artists like Jay-Z, Big L, and Rakim helped influence me and keep me focused on the dream.

Your parents ran/run their own business. Was it hard to say “Sorry, mum and dad, but my future is the entertainment industry” or have they always supported your decision?

I was blessed to have parents with the entreprenuerial spirit but even more blessed to have a supportive family. My family are my biggest fans and supporters.
When I went on your myspace page I was impressed by the amount of hits your song got. Did you expect that?

Honestly, I hope for much more hits in the future. I have fans all over the world right now, but no where close to what I dream of having. I just want to be heard.

Talking of the Internet – do you think it brings more advantages like marketing with social networks or more disadvantages because of people downloading illegally?

I think its a give and take. Yes, the downloading and pirating of music hurts the artist in the sales aspect, but we live in the age of technology. As long as technology advances music will be more convienient and easier for people to obtain. All the social networks such as myspace, Twitter and facebook are free promotion to all artists. I encourage every artist to take advantage of them.

Your first single “She’s On Fire” featured Colby O’Donis and the remix for it even Pitbull. Did you met them in the studio or has everybody record his part alone? And who set up the contact?

My management plays a big part in my success. Fix your face music group has ties to a lot of industry artists. I’m fortunate that these artist recognize my grind, and are willing to work with me. In today’s technology era, you don’t have to be in the same place to record hit records. We sent Colby and Pit the song, they blessed it, and sent it back.

How was working with Akon for your song “By My Side” (available on iTunes)?

Akon is amazing. My manager, DJ Noodles is an Official Konvict DJ so making that happen was incredible.

DJ Noodles (produced “She’s On Fire”) is a good friend of yours. How did you both meet and how would you describe your (musical) relationship?

Dj Noodles and I are really close friends. Like Brothers. He and I grew up together since the age of 15. No other producer knows me better. He knows my sound. He can almost anticipate what I will do to record before I do it. He’s one of the godfathers of my son. One of my best friends.

Are you planning to record a video for your current single “All They Wanna Talk About”?

Definitely. The song has taken off beyond expectation. The people have spoken that they love it, so it’s only right to combine the visual aspect.

When you compare yourself to other current rap artists what would you say makes you special?

My versatility. Not many artists can rock a variety of records like I can. You may hear me over a Jeezy Instrumental, then flip back over an alternative/pop record. I can appeal to every crowd.

Will you collabo with other known musicians for your album or who would you like to collaborate with?

Theres so many artists that I have worked with so far but even more I would love to work with in the future. Bobby V, Lloyd, Ne-yo, Drake, Flo-rida, the list can go on for days.

Who does influence your work?

So many artists influence me. I would have to say just “Real Music” influences me. Real music isn’t defined as underground, or backpackmusic. Real music is what moves people. Weather it be a song about thugs on the street or people partying the club.

Many people say “Hip Hop is dead”. Would you agree?

Naw. It definitley has evolved from its origination, but it’s far from dead. The hip hop industry is a multi-billion dollar market. There are artist that are able to provide for the next few generations in their family off of this industry. It’s impossible to call hip hop dead when it’s bigger industry than it’s ever been.

When I get my hands on your iPod, whose music would I find on it?

A range of everything. I’m into Drake right now. Jay-Z’s album just dropped, so that’s in heavy rotation. I even dig some of the southern music. Shout to Gucci Mane..He’s killin it right now.

Now that we have been talking about music a lot I have to mention that Trazz isn’t only a talented musician but also a model and actor. Who have your modeled for and where can we see your acting skills?

Modeling is something I did in my younger days. Unless your Tyson Beckford it’s not much money in it. As far as acting, I’m a graduate of NY film academy. I do tons of theater so right now you can see me on stage at the Kavinoky Theater in Buffalo, NY. staring in the classic stage play/movie “A Few Good Men”. Also my latest film just dropped on DVD called “The Cuckold”. You can buy through amazon on this site: https://www.createspace.com/268236

Which one is the most fun for you?

I have a genuine love for acting and music. I started doing music first, so it will always be my 1st love.

We will now play a little game. I will say a few singers and rappers and you have to say a lil something about them without too much thinking.

Jay-Z

The King

Rihanna

Talented

Kanye West

Incredible

Beyoncé

Damnnnnnnn…..Too Beautiful

Akon

Gifted

Keri Hilson

fine as hell!

Drake

He got next

Whitney Houston

Respect…but I hope she kicked the crack

Kid Cudi

Lyrical

Trazz

The future Legend

Thank you for this great interview, Trazz.

iWontSTFU.blogspot.com wishes you the best for your career and personal life and hopes to talk to you again in future.

So if you are in Buffalo make sure to see Trazz’ play and cop his album next year!

Mixtape: Sh—in’ on the Industry

Starring: Pitbull, DJ Noodles & DJ Buddha

100 Percent Fronter Proof: “Watch It Drop,” “Cocaine Cowboy” (he raps from the perspective of the coke!) and “Dope Ball”

Essential Info: Yeah, Pit’s mixtape title is arrogant as hell, but Chico always has a reason to smile. Pit is one of the bona fide kings of the club. Every year, you can expect Pit to drop at least a couple of monsters that reach past the urban soil and crush the Latin and mainstream markets. You heard his songs all throughout “Fast & Furious.

Now that he’s free from TVT Records, Pit said there’s nothing holding him back. Pit’s LP Rebelution is set for either August or September.

“This album is gonna be just the way I’m seeing things,” he said. “Whether it be hip-hop, the world, whether it be just my city in general, you’re gonna see I have a lot of different takes on this album. I didn’t know if I wanted to do a double album, give them a whole album of different types of records — conscious records on one end, then the whole club, high-energy on one end. There’s a whole lot of things I want to say that I been holding back, because I felt the last label couldn’t really handle what I had to bring to the table.

“It’s gonna be a lot of surprises,” he added. “I’m not the beef type. I’m not here to catch beef, so some exec can live it up. If I’mma catch beef, I’m gonna catch it with some exec. And it’s gonna be the truth.” – MTV.com

XXLMag.com just dropped a dope interview with Jay Rock, If you ain’t up on thangs, then grab the DJ Noodles & Jay Rock “Coming Soon 2 A Hood Near You” mixtape now!

XXLMAG.COM | JAY ROCK, STREET’S DISCIPLE

Shhh, don’t tell anybody, but there’s something brewing out west. Though the Southern states may still have the game in a cobra clutch, newcomers like Watts-bred rhyme slayer Jay Rock is attempting to shed a little light and show that the sun has yet to set on the West Coast music scene. Having recently released the Lil Wayne-assisted single “All My Life” followed up by his collaboration with DJ Noodles, the mixtape Coming Soon 2 A Hood Near You, it’s safe to say that the secret’s out on the Cali MC. Now generating a healthy buzz, he’s hoping that his momentum will transfer into moving units when his debut LP, tentatively titled Follow Me Home, drops this spring on TopDawg/Warner Bros. Records. XXLMag.com sat down with the left coast lyricist to talk about his chance meeting with Lil Wayne, how he’s bringing unity back to hip-hop and how rap saved his life.

XXLMag: A lot of people are hearing about Jay Rock now but it’s like you came outta nowhere. How did you get started in the game?

Jay Rock: I been rhyming since like 13 [years old], I always had a love for music but it was never actually something that I thought would ever be a job, you feel me? I was into the streets and a lot of my homeboys was in the studio and I’d pass through, but it was just for fun. I lost a lot of my homeboys to the streets and a lot of my friends and family would be pushing me like “you got the talent to rap. Don’t let that go to waste.” So my big homie Dude Dawg, he’s from the same neighborhood as me, he came and picked me up out the streets, put me in the studio and made a lot of things happen for ya boy.

XXL: Speaking of being in the studio, your song “All My Life” featuring Lil Wayne has been getting some burn lately. How’d you two hook up for that?

JR: Basically, Wayne did a show at Universal Studios back home and it was brought to my attention so I just went down and showed my support. I caught him out back and introduced myself to him, let him know who I was, that I was a new artist that just got signed and that I’d love to work with him. He wasn’t on no Hollywood shit and I respect him for that. We exchanged numbers, I reached out to him and he called me right back and we had a chat. I was like, I got this track that we need to do I want you to get on it and he was like ‘cool but can you email it to me?’ I was like nah, I’ll come to you, where you at? I don’t really do the emailing stuff, things can get lost in the computer. So I was like, I’ma come to you, dog. I bought me and my boy a plane ticket, [Wayne] was all the way out in D.C., I hopped on his tour bus like ‘yo, I’m here.’ As soon as he got some studio time, we got it in and made it happen.

XXL: Wow, did you expect that type of reaction from him and that type of outcome?

JR: Man, I didn’t know what to expect, you feel me? As big as he is…but that was one of the realest things he ever did. Most people you don’t get that call back.

XXL: You’ve worked with several East Coast MCs, specifically Papoose, Joell Ortiz and Grafh on your track “East Meets West.” Are you trying to bridge the gap by reaching out to artists from the east?

JR: Of course. I think we all gotta do records with each other, we all gotta fuck with each other. It’s like things have been fucked up since the Pac and Biggie days. We all gotta come back together and get that unity. Let’s all get this money cause that’s what it’s about. Whenever I’m on the East Coast, I’m reaching out to whoever wanna do music with me. Let’s put all the other bullshit to the side and do real music.

XXL: A lot of artists say that, but what does real music mean to you?

JR: Real music is honest music. Anything I’ve been through, seen or even that somebody else spoke up about, I put it in my records. I been out here grinding in New York so you might hear me do a song about that. Just whatever I go through, who I am. Where Jay Rock is from and where he’s trying to go in life.

XXL: In your music, you rep your Blood affiliation heavy. It seems in the last few years it’s become fashionable for MCs to wear red rags and talk about it on wax. Some rappers have been called out for that. What’s your feelings on it?

JR: That’s where I came from so that’s always gonna be a part of me. I’m just telling my story. Snoop and them did it for years, why not rep my side ? I’m not out bangin’ on niggas or condoning people to go and kill innocent people or do drive-bys or nothing like that. I’m just pushing real, positive music. Any real street cat out there is gonna know what I’m talking about. As far as these rappers, I’ll put it like this, just respect it. Because you go to these different places and you better be about [what you say] cause if not these real dudes is gonna eat you alive. It’s nothing to be played with.

XXL: You said earlier that you were “picked up out of the streets.” If you weren’t rapping now, where do you think you’d be?

JR: Man I’d probably still be out there on the block…there’s no telling where I’d be. The path I was going on, maybe in the penitentiary or under the grave. If I didn’t have rap.

XXL: So with that being said, with your voice almost not being heard, what do you want people to take from your music? What kind of mark are you trying to leave?

JR: I want to tell everybody not to let people tell them they can’t do something. I mean, look at me. Who would have ever thought a dude out of Watts from the Nickerson Garden Projects would have a debut album coming out soon. So anything you wanna do, whether it be a doctor or lawyer or a rapper, you can do it. Just stay dedicated and work hard. Real talk.

XXL reviews the new mixtape from Emilio Roajas “Recession Proof” presented by DJ Noodles & Legend!

Yup, another mixtape from a Latino rapper (technically he’s half Latino like Term). You’d think they would’ve done this in-between September 15th – October 15th or Dia De Los Muertos or something. But I’m not mad. As long as they give me something I can feel then it’s all good in the hood like big booties in sweats (I just personally love that). Like most up-and-coming rappers are doing nowadays, Emilio Rojas’ been using the internet as a means to build his celebrity. And one listen to his full mixtape and you can tell this kid is a student of the game.

ER is one of those well-rounded MCs. He can spit lyrical venom on a joint like “On The Ave” or “Free” and then turn around and spit a smooth as Billie Dee Williams joint like “The Way She Moves” where he and my man Stat Quo speak on their dealings with the opposite sex. The fast paced flow he used to freak the Timbaland-produced “Let It Out” shows that this kid doesn’t have a one dimensional flow and can adapt to whatever he’s thrown.

With “Free” he used the word over and over to create sick lines like, “A free market/the stocks is free fallin’/in a land where freedom will ring and keep callin’ (hello?)/cause they don’t really wanna free up a line/so we don’t free up our minds/we got the freedom to die/and that’s it! The freedom to buy from fascists/where the free press is feedin’ us lies, they facts twists/these COs they taking the free rolls/gettin’ money now that’s easy to make like free throws.”

I’d be fronting something awful if I wasn’t impressed with the young MC. More so because he just keeps things interesting with the change of sounds and the different flows he used to demonstrate his skills. He didn’t get repetitive with his style and actually kept things fresh with the concepts and execution. His voice sounds like he should be collaborating with someone like Bow Wow but his rhymes were dope enough to have him sparring with Stat Quo. That’s gotta count for something, right? Then again, if you’re a Blood from LA, getting Lil Wayne on your record isn’t that hard.-The Infamous O

Hottest Joint: “On The Ave”

Weakest Joint: “Here I Am”

The new smash single from Trazz featuring Colby O’Donis, “She’s On Fire,” is featured on Loud.com as the 12″ Of the Week!!!

Life as the hottest rapper in upstate New York doesn’t come without its pressures. For 25 year old Buffalo, NY native Trazz, the hopes and dreams of an entire region often overlooked by the music industry since Rick James dominated the charts are resting firmly on his shoulders. Lucky for them he is more than up to the challenge.

Growing up in the downtrodden industrial city of Buffalo was an experience like no other. “You had to grow up fast. The weather, the struggle, the entire essence was negative at the time so with my music I always tried to turn that into a positive.” It was on those streets where he crafted his songwriting approach balancing punch lines and metaphors with infectious uptempo beats.

In late 2004, after brief stints in college and down south, Trazz reunited in the studio with long-time friend DJ Noodles and became part of the “Fix Your Face!” movement. The alliance has spawned several remixes of major label released singles including the smash single “What You Got” by GRAMMY nominee Colby O’Donis featuring Akon and Fat Man Scoop. Following up on that success, Trazz and Colby have joined forces again this time for his own first single “She’s On Fire”.

“We sent the idea to Colby and he dug it right away, 48 hrs later we had a finished record and our first radio spin.” Trazz’s records have not only impacted in the Upstate, NY region but nationwide with over 1,000 spins to date. “I have been fortunate to work with some incredible artists and industry professionals that recognize my grind and see the potential.” says Trazz. At this rate, it won’t be long before the whole world notices what upstate, NY has already come to realize.

XXL reviews the new mixtape from DJ Noodles & Jay Rock, “Coming Soon 2 A Hood Near You”!

Hip-hop’s newest Blood has been on the rise for a hot minute now. Hailing from the infamous Nickerson Gardens, Jay Rock’s been making the rounds and bringing some of that good ol’ gutter West Coast sound to a game being oversaturated with Auto-Tune. Armed with a hoarse voice and a smooth as Rihanna’s forehead flow (Before Chris beat the brown off her), the kid Jay Rock is proving to be a hard act to follow. Just ask Lil Wayne. On the will.i.am produced, “All My Life” Jay more than held his own sparring with the “hottest” rapper in the game today. Line for line, flow for flow, he did not get outshined.

And some might take his rhyme, “My style Canal, yeah I got the best flow/I stay with the pound, keep money under the floor, so I’m good from the ground – up! Never take your soul, I ain’t fuckin’ around/Blood, Cuz, whatever/let’s get this cheddar like Cheetos Puffs/Keep O’s of that bad boy kush we gonna Puff/and Shyne like the nigga, Diddy got locked up,” off of “Ahead of My Time” as some sort of attempt to resuscitate a dead East Coast/West Coast feud, but he put any notion of that to rest with “Wassup New York” where he pays homage to the five boroughs.

Proving that he’s more than just an average gangsta rapper, Rock shows that G’s got hearts that bleed on “I Cried” and then delved into today’s current social status on “Depression,” taking notice to “Banks foreclosing/accounts is frozen/the stock market done fell out of a colon/what type of shit is that? Niggas still in Iraq. Fuck the oil, niggas still in Iraq/troops ain’t coming home unless they’re in a body bag or their arm gone…”

I’m feeling Jay Rock something hard right now (No homo!). From the sounds on Coming Soon To A Hood Near You, Jay Rock is ready to rip mics like a porn star with rusted braces. His voice and flow give him the ability to make every track he gets on sound listenable and damn entertaining. The fact that he can rhyme and at times actually says something with those rhymes makes him all the more threatening to today’s Auto-Tune entertainers and ringtone rappers. Word to everything I’m telling you right now, Jay Rock’s Watts up! -The Infamous O

Hottest Joint: “All My Life”

Weakest Joint: “Goodnight Baby”

This week MTV is featuring “Coming Soon 2 A Hood Near You” from DJ Noodles & Jay Rock on Mixtape Mondays.

Check out what Jay Rock had to say about some of the joints on the new mixtape:

» “Coming Soon to a Hood Near You.” “It’s talking about me coming!” Jay said. “I’m coming through every ‘hood with my music. The ‘hood is what I do this for. No matter what city or state you’re in, the ‘hood is the ‘hood. And all the ‘hood n—as and ‘hood chicks relate to me, because I come from the same struggles.”

» “All My Life” (featuring Lil Wayne and Will.I.Am). “This song is about moving from the bottom to the top,” Rock said. “And that’s not just for the ‘hood. It’s for everybody from every walk of life. It’s about forward progress in anything you’re doing. It’s also about determination and not letting anything stop you.”

» “I Cried” (produced by DJ Noodles). “It’s basic raw emotions that street n—as feel when they lose one of their n—as to the streets. All type of feelings run through a n—a, and retaliation is right at the top of the list.”

DJ Noodles has been awarded 2008 Mixshow DJ Of The Year at the S.I.N. awards, held in New York City on December 4th 2008. Recognized for his top rated mixshows on Buffalo’s 93.7 WBLK (The Wire, The Saturday Night Mixtape), his fan favorite Sirius Satellite Radio show (Fix Your Face Radio), and his internationally syndicated Blast Off Mix (WLLD Tampa, WHHL St. Louis, WRCL Flint, WJQM Madison, KRRQ Lafayette, Amsterdam). Recognized for pushing the boundries of traditional mixshows, breaking new music and producing his world renowned remixes, DJ Noodles was voted the 2008 winner by nationwide program directors, music directors, and record label reps from all the major labels.

The S.I.N. Awards, established in 1994, is a yearly tradition to help recognize individuals in the radio and record business who excelled in their specific area of expertise or made an impact as up and coming Music Industry professionals. The S.I.N. Awards acknowledge individuals among their peers as Award Nominees as well as honoring those who shined the brightest over the course of the year as S.I.N. Award Winners. Each December, New York City hosts the Annual S.I.N. Awards Ceremony which brings members of the Radio and Record Label communities together for an opportunity to network and recognize these individuals in person and among their peers
